I am pleased to officially announce the forthcoming inclusion of my short story, THE BOLDEST OF THE GREEKS, in Flame Tree Publishing's Achilles Anthology. It is an honor to be included among so many other great writers and to entrust my work to the capable hands at Flame Tree.
The anthology is part of Flame Trees Myths, Gods, and Immortals series of short story collections. Each volume focuses on a legendary, mythological, or folkloric figure and gathers new stories alongside the original tales, with an essay that emphasizes ancient and modern connections.
My included work is a telling of Achilles' deeds from the perspective of Thersites, a common foot soldier in the Greek army. Thersites is a minor character in both the Iliad and the Aeneid (the most significant ancient sources of Achilles' role in the Trojan War), but he leaves an impression whenever he is present in the tales. Though he is lowborn and not considered one of ancient Greece's heroes, Thersites possessed the courage to voice the common soldier's plight and speak boldly before kings and demigods. He is a character who has fascinated me ever since I first read the Iliad, and I am thrilled to see his side of the story put into print.
Achilles will be published in a beautiful, deluxe hardbound edition in March 2025 in the UK and released in April in the United States.
